Unit C opener — The Waterworks. The great valve wheel stands over the junction, the contract is sealed in wax on its face, and the water runs out through the filter grate cleaner than it came in.

Every lab has methods that live in someone’s head — how a column is named, what a sane row count looks like, which timezone the meters run on. Unit C moves them out of heads and into the pipe: standard operating procedures the agent can invoke (C1), contracts that filter every write at the junction (C2), and the warehouse plumbing that makes the analysis panel materialize under those laws (C3). Midway through, the first planted bug arrives on schedule — a column renamed by a single capital letter — and instead of eleven days of silent drift it dies at the junction, at write time, before one number moves. Advice can be ignored, and on a long enough survey it will be. The Waterworks is where advice becomes physics.
